Project Officer at AIFM – Marseille

The International Association for Mediterranean Forests (AIFM) works to preserve the exceptional heritage of Mediterranean forests and build a sustainable future for them.
Its expertise lies in three main areas:
• Conservation and sustainable management of Mediterranean basin forests
• Exchange of experiences and good practices through international cooperation
• Public awareness and communication of key forest-related issues
The association is managed by a board of directors composed of volunteer members from various Mediterranean countries. Its management is professional and entrepreneurial, as AIFM operates in a competitive sector, particularly in terms of funding.
Main Responsibilities
The Project Officer will be responsible for managing the newly approved European projects RENFORCE and SIMMER, and will also support the AIFM Director in managing RESCOM 2.
Key duties include:
1. Project monitoring and budget management
• Develop and track the project timeline, defining milestones, tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities
• Identify and manage risks and issues, and implement mitigation plans
• Monitor project progress using project management tools (dashboards, activity timelines, etc.)
• Manage the project budget, monitor expenditures and variances, and propose adjustments when necessary
• Prepare financial reports for expenses
• Draft regular technical and financial activity reports for donors and project partners
2. Administrative project management
• Manage project documentation (terms of reference, contracts, reports, etc.)
• Coordinate human and material resources needed for project implementation
• Ensure logistical and safety procedures are followed, taking into account fieldwork specificities
• Facilitate communication and collaboration between project stakeholders (internal teams, external partners, funders, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with administrative procedures in line with donors’ rules and local laws
• Ensure adherence to applicable procedures and standards
3. Reporting, meetings, and event coordination
• Draft regular progress reports, summarizing key information and presenting achieved results
• Prepare and lead project meetings, ensuring they are efficient and productive
• Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, or conferences related to the project
• Participate in the organization of communication events related to the project
• Ensure effective dissemination of information and visibility of the project
Profile Sought
Education and experience:
You have a higher education degree (Master’s level) and at least 3 years of professional experience. You have led projects involving international partners in the fields addressed by the association: forests and the environment.
Skills and personal qualities:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills:
• Strong project management skills (planning, technical and financial follow-up, control)
• Proficiency in project management tools, both technical and financial
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Team spirit and the ability to unite stakeholders around a project
• Precision, organization, and a strong sense of responsibility
• Problem-solving and anticipatory skills
• Strong writing skills in both French and English
• Analytical and summarizing capabilities
• Fluent in both written and spoken French and English; proficiency in Arabic is a plus
• Proficient in IT and office tools; comfortable working in a Mac environment
Job Conditions
• Full-time permanent contract (CDI), executive status
• Position based at AIFM headquarters in Marseille (2nd arrondissement), with regular international travel required
• Salary according to the ECLAT agreement, index 350, i.e. €2,500 gross per month, negotiable depending on experience and qualifications
• Position available as soon as possible

Main Responsibilities
The Mission Officer will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and administrative operations of the association and its projects, supporting the management of recently approved projects, and contributing to fundraising efforts for future initiatives.
Key duties:
1. Financial and administrative management of the association
• Day-to-day administrative, financial, and technical management
• Handling daily mail and correspondence
• Monitoring cash flow and general accounting (in collaboration with the chartered accountant)
• Preparing and monitoring grant applications and funding requests
2. Management of current projects
• Budget and activity monitoring, coordinating with project managers
• Project administrative support
• Drafting reports, facilitating meetings, and contributing to the organization of project-related events
3. Fundraising and new project development
• Contributing to the identification of new funding opportunities
• Supporting proposal writing and project development
Candidate Profile
Education and Experience
• Master’s degree (or equivalent, Bac+5)
• At least 3 years of professional experience
• Strong understanding of non-profit operations and administration
• Experience managing projects with international partners in the fields of forestry and environment
Skills and Attributes
• Strong project management skills (planning, technical and financial monitoring, control)
• Proficiency with technical and financial project management tools
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles and tools (especially Excel)
• Good understanding of how associations operate and are administered
• Team player with the ability to mobilize and coordinate stakeholders
• Strong organizational skills, reliability, and sense of responsibility
• Problem-solving and anticipatory thinking
• Excellent writing skills in both French and English
• Analytical and synthesis skills
• Proficient in both spoken and written French and English
• Proficient with office software and tools; comfortable in a Mac environment
Job Offer Conditions

• Position based at AIFM headquarters in Marseille, 2nd arrondissement
• Regular international travel required
• Salary: €2,860 gross/month (index 400 of the ECLAT agreement), negotiable based on qualifications and experience
• Start date: as soon as possible
