Our Mission
Preserve, enhance, pass on: AIFM at the heart of action for Mediterranean forests.
AIFM (International Association for Mediterranean Forests), founded in 1996, is the place where Mediterranean people are building the future of their forests. We weave the links between players in 25 countries to preserve this exceptional heritage.
Our ongoing actions for Mediterranean forests
PROJECT
Interreg Euro-MED StategyMedFor
The aim of the StrategyMedFor project is to develop a Sustainable Management Strategy for Mediterranean Forests, targeted at each forest type and adapted to foreseeable climate scenarios, thus contributing to their restoration and conservation.
The project is scheduled to run for 2.5 years, from January 2024 to September 2026.
PROJECT
RESCOM
The RESCOM project: ‘Strengthening the resilience of ecosystems in the Mediterranean’ began in the second half of 2023 and will continue until 2027.
The aim of the project is to promote the conservation and sustainable management of coastal, marine and island areas, as well as wetlands and forests, and to help preserve this exceptional biodiversity for the benefit of present and future communities.
It is being implemented by the Mediterranean Consortium for Biodiversity (CMB) in partnership with the beneficiary countries.

AIFM as seen by its partners
A genuine platform for researchers and foresters
My experience with AIFM began at the 4th Mediterranean Forest Week in Barcelona. As a genuine platform for academic researchers and foresters, AIFM enabled me to broaden my vision as an ecologist and conservationist, and to forge links with Mediterranean colleagues working on mutually interesting avenues of research or development.
Jean Stephan
Professor at the Lebanese UniversityA long-standing partner
AIFM is a long-standing partner of the FAO, having contributed to the development of the Strategic Framework for Mediterranean Forests, to the 2013 evaluation of the Silva Mediterranea Committee, and to the implementation of activities under the regional project on goods and services provided by Mediterranean forest ecosystems in the context of climate change. On each occasion, the FAO has appreciated AIFM's technical expertise, responsiveness and reliability.
Eva Muller
Director, Forestry Policy and Resources Division, FAOContributing to the sustainable development of our regions
Born in Morocco, where I lived throughout my youth, and later trained at the École forestière in Nancy, I have devoted 35 years of my professional life to international forestry, including that of the Mediterranean region. I returned to France the year AIFM was created, and immediately joined the association to participate, even if only in a small way, in the sustainable development of the woodlands of our Mer Commune.
Jean-Paul Lanly
Honorary Treasurer, French Academy of AgricultureA fantastic opportunity
Being part of a Mediterranean association is a fantastic opportunity. Over the last 20 years, AIFM has been able to attract members from all three shores of the Mediterranean, which has enabled us to get to know the various forest habitats we share, through exchanges in the field.
Annita Logotheti
Environmentalist, Society for the Protection of PrespaA solid and essential partner
Since 2011, we have been working with the IAMF, supporting exchanges between stakeholders and then the launch of the MEDFORVAL network of Mediterranean forests with high ecological value. We are discovering an organisation whose openness to new ideas, neutrality and spirit of service make it a solid and essential partner for the conservation of Mediterranean forests.
