FAO publishes guide on principles for ecosystem restoration to guide the United Nations Decade

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (IUCN/CEM), and the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) collaborated on this document in the context of the United Nations (UN) Decade 2021-2030 on Ecosystem Restoration.
Creating a shared vision for ecosystem restoration requires the adoption of principles that underpin all ecosystem restoration activities in support of the UN Decade strategy.
Through a synthesis of published principles for different types of restoration activities and a global expert consultation, ten key principles for ecosystem restoration were identified and detailed. They include a first principle guiding restoration in the context of the UN Decade; and nine best practice principles. These complementary principles will maximize the net gain to native biodiversity, ecosystem health and integrity, and human health and well-being, across all biomes, sectors, and regions.
